MP3.com and Lindows/Linspire founder Michael Robertson this week unveiled his latest project, a software service called Oboe that lets iTunes users store their entire music collections in online lockers. With the music stored on a central mp3tunes.com server, you're free to access it from anywhere, using a standard Web browser. The unlimited storage version of this service costs $39.95 per year, and Robertson says it's legal because the service doesn't allow sharing, its customers have already paid for the content, and customers are simply exercising their fair-use rights. It's also not a shabby way to back up the music you're stuffing into your iPod, from what I can tell. The only question, of course, is whether Apple will try to come down hard on the service.
