Facebook 2.5 for Windows Phone

The long-awaited Facebook 2.5 update for Windows Phone is now available, providing a number of new features that bring this app up to speed with recent changes at the social networking service. Facebook for Windows Phone is one of a handful of “must have” apps for this platform and if you do use this service on the go, you’ll want to upgrade immediately.

According to a post on the Windows Phone Blog by Microsoft’s Michael Stroh, Facebook 2.5 includes the following new features:

Threaded messaging. Facebook 2.5 includes full Facebook threaded messaging, including group messaging.

Better tagging: Now you can tag friends and locations in your posts in the “with” and “at” format.

Wall cleanup: Use tap and hold to delete posts and comments from your Wall.

Hot links: Links in posts can now be tapped.

More to “Like”: You can now “Like” comments.

Overall, the Facebook app UI looks much like it did before, with the ability to use nice banner images in the header (sort of like the cover image from the web-based version of Facebook). The app bar has been revised in the default view, but I don’t see many other obvious changes.

And to be clear, even given Windows Phone’s decent Facebook integration, you need this app. It offers many useful features you can’t get through the integration, including the ability to check others in. It’s a must-have if you use Facebook and Windows Phone.
