Microsoft releases DCOM for Windows 95

Microsoft has brought Distributed COM (Component Object Model), or DCOM, to Windows 95. Previously, DCOM was available only on Windows NT. This release is of interest to software developers only.

DCOM allows software developers to use components over an intranet or the Internet without having to hand-write the complex communication code. Basically, DCOM is an extension of COM/ActiveX from the desktop to a wired, multi-machine environment.
