In a baffling move, Apple has decided to keep the Newton and not spin its division off as a separate company. Apparent amnesia sufferer Steve Jobs, who was behind the original spin-off, is now touting the Newton eMate as the future of Apple's education push, but I suspect the truth has more to do with Apple's secret NC plans.
Because the Newton is a lightweight OS, it's a natural for Larry Ellison's vision of the NC future. The Newton eMate, which can easily be fitted with a faster processor, is an obvious first step in this direction
