Yahoo Buys MusicMatch

Yahoo announced this week the purchase of media player software maker MusicMatch for $160 million. The acquisition is expected to help Yahoo gain a foot in the burgeoning market for online music services, which is currently dominated by Apple's iTunes service. "Yahoo is committed to being a major player in digital music," said Terry Semel, Yahoo CEO. "This combination bolsters our strategy to capture the largest audience of consumers as they make the shift to digital music." MusicMatch has been in business since 1997 and boasts more than 225,000 subscribers to its paid online radio service
