Search Your Entire Mailbox in Seconds

Microsoft's Lookout
Lookout from Microsoft lets you quickly search your Microsoft Outlook email messages. The software was acquired by Microsoft in June 2004 and is part of the MSN Toolbar Suite. With Lookout, you can search through the entire contents of your mailbox in less than a second. Lookout requires Windows 2000 or later and Outlook 2000 or later.

Chris Gratton of Etobicoke, Ontario, provides high praise for Lookout. He says, "We have recently come across a great product that's increasing our staff's productivity and reducing Help desk calls. Lookout is cool software that installs as an add-on to Outlook and will let you search and index all files (i.e., email, contacts, calendars, notes, tasks, and archives) that you want to have instant access to via Outlook. I can't tell you how many times this product has saved the day for people in our company who have multiple archives open at once and who are trying to find an email message from last year in a sea of 10,000 email messages. I rate this software 5 out of 5. And to top it off, it's free! You should check it out and soon you won't be able to live with out it!"

Retrieve Message-Level Items from Exchange Backups

Quest Software's Recovery Manager for Exchange
Patrick Gliniecki of Milwaukee uses Quest Software's Recovery Manager for Exchange, software that leverages your existing backup software to retrieve specific items from mailboxes. He says, "Quest Software's Recovery Manager for Exchange is the best product I've seen this year. The ability to restore Exchange data down to the message-level is incredible! Another cool feature is that it works with VERITAS Software's VERITAS NetBackup, which we were already using."

Recovery Manager provides granular keyword searches so that you can target only the email messages you need. Recovery Manager eliminates the need for a dedicated Microsoft Exchange Server server for recovery projects. You can perform message-level, granular restoration of Exchange data, without setting up a recovery Exchange server; access Exchange backups using your existing backup software; restore data from data stores located in a Recovery Storage Group of Exchange Server 2003; restore data from snapshot backups of Exchange data stores; access Exchange databases without applying log files; and view or restore email items that were permanently deleted before backup creation, but kept due their to retention period. For pricing, contact Quest Software.

Easily Migrate from GroupWise to Exchange

Quest Software's Quest GroupWise Migrator for Exchange

Jeremiah Cook of Greensboro, North Carolina, can't say enough positive things about Quest Software's Quest GroupWise Migrator for Exchange (formerly Wingra GroupWise Migrator for Exchange). He says, "I'm a consultant and I just used Quest GroupWise Migrator for Exchange to migrate a customer's mail system from Novell GroupWise 6.0 to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. Quest GroupWise Migrator saved my job. The tool made me look like a hero! After speaking to others about their GroupWise to Exchange migrations, we expected the worst. We expected at least a day of downtime and having to perform multiple separate conversions. I also heard that the GroupWise Migration Wizard worked but wasn't perfect. So, I told the customer they would be down for a day and I would convert most everything without any problems but that a few address books may not convert. I wasn't aware that the GroupWise Migration Wizard only supports GroupWise 5.5 and earlier. Then, I did a Google search and found GroupWise Migrator for Exchange. We installed the GroupWise Migrator for Exchange and did a test run. The client was so excited about the test run that we went ahead and bought the product as soon as the test completed. The actual migration of all company data only took an hour and everyone was so excited to have every component that existed in GroupWise (i.e., mail, all to do lists, memos, calendars, and address books, including proxy address books). This customer was really happy with the smooth transition. We're so impressed with the capability of Quest's product. Obviously, someone has put a lot of hard work and thought into the software. Quest has great tech support too. I can't wait for my next GroupWise migration with my next customer!"
