Three Previous Microsoft Security Bulletins Re-released

Microsoft released ten security bulletins this month. Did you know the company also re-released three older security bulletins?

The February 2005 bulletin "
ASP.NET Path Validation Vulnerability (887219) " was re-released to include an updated package for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows XP Media Center Edition. The April 2005 bulletin " Vulnerabilities in TCP/IP Could Allow Remote Code Execution and Denial of Service (893066) " was re-released too. Microsoft did not say why other than to state that it is an updated patch and that anyone who installed it previously should install the new version. Another bulletin, "SQL Server Installation Process May Leave Passwords on System (Q263968) ," was also re-released. It now contains updated information about cluster installation and shows that a new version of the KillPwd utility is now available.

The company had also briefly posted a re-release of MS05-023, "
Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Word May Lead to Remote Code Execution (890169) " but then reverted to the previously existing copy. According to Russ Cooper, moderator of the NTBugTraq mailing list, Microsoft said that the bulletin was re-released in error.
