Malware Threat - 01 May 2005

Level: High
Synopsis: Sober.V is spreading rapidly on the Internet, especially in Europe. Sober.V relies on social engineering by tempting users with an offer of free soccer tickets. Sober.V has no apparent malicious payload but can consume network bandwidth on networks with many infections and it sends unwanted email to the infected user's contact list. Keep your antivirus solutions updated and advise users with specific information about this virus's offer of soccer tickets. In general, be cautious when deciding whether to open attachments from unknown senders or attachments that, despite coming from familiar senders, have any unusual characteristic.
