CyberDefender Launches Security Toolbar Beta

CyberDefender is launching a successor to its safeSEARCH toolbar. The new toolbar, MyIdentityDefender, became available to beta testers this week.

MyIdentityDefender works with Internet Explorer to help prevent phishing and fraud. CyberDefender said that it detects "suspicious activity in real time." The toolbar can also identify potentially dangerous Web sites found using Google, MSN, Yahoo and AOL, and other search engines, and display a "rating icon alongside search results."

The toolbar also helps users learn details about a given site, such as the registered owner of the site, contact information, country where the site is located, IP address of the site, and more. Other features include a pop-up blocker and the ability for users to rate sites.

"Identity theft continues as one of the most painful and fastest growing types of attack on people from all walks of life", said Rob Enderle Principal Analyst for the Enderle Group. "The identification of hostile or potentially hostile sites is one of the most common ways to keep this kind of attack from being successful."

The new beta is available for download at CyberDefender's Web site and requires Windows Vista or Windows XP along with Internet Explorer 6.x or 7.0.
