JSI Tip 3857. "You are using automatically generated configuration files"?

When you multi-boot Windows 2000 and choose to start either MS-DOS or Win9x from the Windows 2000 boot menu, you receive:

You are using automatically generated configuration files.
Your original configuration files have been renamed
Config.upg and Autoexec.upg and are located in the C:\MSDOS7 directory.

If your copy of Windows 2000 is an upgrade from Win9x, the upgrade made a copy of Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files in the MSDOS7 folder and renamed them Config.upg and Autoexec.upg. A new Autoexec.bat file with the above message was created.

This informational message can be removed:

1. Copy C:\Autoexec.bat to C:\Autoexec.sav.

2. Start / Run / c:\autoexec.bat / OK.

3. Delete:

Echo You are using automatically generated configuration files.
Echo Your original configuration files have been renamed
Echo Config.upg and Autoexec.upg and are located in the C:\MSDOS7 directory.

4. Save the file.
