Apple Ships Tiger

Alhough the release will directly affect less than 2 percent of computer users worldwide, let's be serious for a moment: Apple Computer's Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" offers features that Microsoft won't meet or exceed for at least a year. Key among these is Spotlight, Apple's instant desktop search technology, which appears to work well. But Tiger isn't just about Spotlight. According to Apple, the release includes more than 200 new features (a debatable figure). But most of these new features are either fairly minor—Apple calls out individual keyboard shortcuts as individual features, for example—or behind-the-scenes core technologies that won't change the lives of typical Apple users. Look, I know I won't change your mind—you either want Tiger or you don't—but if you're looking for an in-depth review of Mac OS X 10.4, I published the first-ever review of this system on the SuperSite for Windows 2 weeks ago, and I just updated it to reflect some other features I've explored since.
