How to Type the Trademark Symbol (™)

Use these quick methods for inserting a trademark symbol in Microsoft Word, on a Mac, or on iOS and Android devices.

You don’t need to know patent law to insert the trademark symbol (™) in a Microsoft Word document, on a Mac, or on an iOS or Android device.

Learn each simple method below. 

How To Insert the Trademark Symbol in Microsoft Word

When using Microsoft Word on a PC, click to where in your document you want to place the trademark symbol. Next, hold the Alt key and type the numbers 0153. 

Microsoft Word’s Advanced Symbols library is another place to find the trademark symbol. You can access the Advanced Symbols library under Microsoft Word’s Insert tab. After you open it, double-click the ™ symbol to include it in your document.

Lastly, if you plan to use the trademark symbol regularly in a Microsoft Word document, you can adjust your AutoCorrect options to automatically replace a word (such as “trademark”) with the symbol. 

How To Insert the Trademark Symbol on a Mac

The keyboard shortcut is the easiest way to type the trademark symbol on a Mac. Hold down Option, followed by the number 2. This keyboard shortcut works in most applications, including Pages, Notes, Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.

You can also insert the trademark symbol from your Mac’s Character Viewer. To do so, find Emoji & Symbols under the Edit menu. Search for “trademark” or scroll to the Symbols section (the icon that features a musical note, an ampersand, and a percentage sign). Double-click the trademark symbol or highlight and drag the ™ into your document.

How To Insert the Trademark Symbol on a Mobile Device

Typing the trademark symbol is just as easy to do from the keyboard of an iOS or Android device.

On an iPhone, the trademark symbol is found in the emoji library. Switch to the Emoji keyboard by clicking on the wide-grinning smiley face. Next, search “trademark” in the Search Emoji bar, then click the ™ symbol. 

The trademark symbol can be found in the numbers and symbols keyboard on Android devices. Once you’ve switched to the numbers and symbols keyboard, tap on the ™ to insert the trademark symbol.
