When you try to install Windows 2000 on an IDE or UltraDMA66/ATA66-based computer, you receive:

If you have the UlraDMA66/ATA66 (80 wire/40 pin) IDE cable attached to the drive on which you are installing Windows 2000, this can occur, as Windows 2000 does not fully support the UltraDMA66 controller.
Use either of the following methods to resolve the problem:
1. Use a standard ATA (40 wire/40 pin) IDE cable and check the manufacturer of your motherboard for updated ATA66 drivers for Windows 2000.
2. When you receive the Press F6 if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver message, provide an updated Windows 2000 UltraDMA66 driver.
NOTE: Some UltraDMA66/ATA66 drive firmware is set to UltraDMA66/ATA66. Some older motherboards do not support UltraDMA66/ATA66. Ask your hard disk manufacturer for either jumper settings or a program that you can use to enable ATA33 protocol over ATA66 protocol on the drive or on a motherboard that has built-in UltraDMA66/ATA66 controllers that are not supported in Windows 2000.
