Windows to merge with Digital TV

According to a new area on the Microsoft Web site, the company is planning on merging the PC with Digital TV, using the next version of Windows 95-- code-named "Memphis"--or Windows NT 5.0 Workstation as the catalyst. Memphis and NT 5 will enable PCs to receive video and digital data from broadcast, satellite, and cable networks, just like a television set.

For a computer to receive a digital broadcast signal, you will need a TV tuner card, a wireless remote control, a television or SVGA monitor, and Microsoft Memphis or Windows NT 5.0. Optional components include a satellite dish and Internet connection.

Microsoft is working with DirectTV, Compaq, Cirrus Logic, NBC, USA Networks, and other companies to make this a reality
