Sun will test IE .0 for Java compliance

Sun will test the new Internet Explorer 4.0 browser to see whether it supports all of its JDK 1.1 technologies.  Sun executives have stated that the company will take action against Microsoft if the browser does not support the full Java standard.

"If they choose to pick a school-yard fight with us and remain proprietary and destroy the value proposition of Java, then we need to take action," said Alan Baratz, president of JavaSoft, Sun's Java division. "We will never let anyone erode the value proposition of Java."

Microsoft, for its part, is unfazed.

"We are confident that IE 4.0 will be the most compliant browser on the market," said Todd Nielsen, general manager of platform marketing and developer relations at Microsoft
