Enable "Hey, Cortana" in Windows 10

Q. How can I enable Cortana to respond to "Hey Cortana" in Windows 10?

A. While Cortana is built into Windows 10 Build 9926, by default you cannot launch Cortana using your voice. However enabling this feature is pretty easy and allows you to intiate a Cortana session just by saying: "Hey Cortana" and then immediately following the phrase with your command. For example "Hey Cortana where is the nearest gym?".

To enable this:

  1. Click in the Cortana area on the task bar
  2. In the Cortana window click the 3 lines in the top left corner and select Settings
  3. Near the bottom of the settings enable the Let Cortana respond when you say "Hey Cortana." option

You can now launch Cortana via voice. You may notice that this feature causes battery consumption to increase since Cortana is always "listening."
