Editor's Note: Send your SQL Server questions to Microsoft's SQL Server development team at [email protected].

When I view the SQL Server error logs, the most recent information about my server doesn't appear. Why isn't SQL Server recording the information in the error logs?

Every time SQL Server starts, the system creates a new error log. If you don't restart SQL Server frequently, the error log might fill up and stop recording information. You can create a new error log without restarting SQL Server by using sp_cycle_errorlog.
