Announced today at IFA 2014, the Nokia Lumia 830 is Microsoft's new "affordable flagship" handset. Here's what's happening with the Lumia 830:
An affordable flagship. The Lumia 830 will retail for just $440 before taxes and subsidies, so it will be quite inexpensive for those who purchase it with a contract.
Not for the United States. That said, you'll need to check out Expansys if you want to get this phone in the US: It's a global phone, and not aimed at the US market.
A new mid-range camera. With its prominent camera bump, the 830 signals that it has serious camera optics. But they're not as good as a Lumia 1020, 1520 or Icon/930: Instead, the 830 features a 10 megapixel PureView camera with ZEISS optics, rich recording functionality, and optical image stabilization. It won't initially take pictures in two sizes like those high-end Lumias, but Microsoft is looking at adding this in the future (and if so, it will offer an 8 megapixel "original" plus a 5 megapixel version for sharing).
Flagship features. In addition to the nice camera, the 830 provides integrated wireless charging and SensorCore.
Colors. The 830 is available in green, orange, black and white.
Nokia Wireless Charging Flip Shell. You can pop-off the back cover and replace it with a new Nokia Wireless Charging Flip Shell, which comes in orange, green and a new dark gray color.
OS. The Lumia 830 ships with Windows Phone 8.1.1 and the Lumia Denim firmware update.
