Plextor is among the first manufacturers to announce a new recordable DVD drive that supports 12x DVD+R and 8x DVD-R recording. The drive will support both competing DVD recordable formats, including both rewritable formats, DVD+RW and DVD-RW, at 4x speeds. Plextor will ship the drive late next month for $209, the company says—a relative bargain. With compatible media, users should be able to burn a full 4.7GB DVD in a matter of minutes. We think that steadily declining prices and increased speed should help make DVD burners a standard accessory on all PCs by this coming holiday season
