Government OKs new AMD company

The Foundry Company will act as the manufacturing arm of the recently-split AMD.

According to a release from AMD, the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment on Tuesday approved the creation of The Foundry Company, a partnership between AMD and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC), an investment company owned by the government of Abu Dhabi.

In October, AMD announced it would split off its manufacturing operations so that it could better compete against Intel. Recently announced products from AMD include an ultrathin notebook platorm based on the new Athlon Neo processor and a new quad-core Opteron processor for servers.

For more information, see AMD's site and ATIC's site.
