Office 97 Service Release 1 released

Thanks to Michael Tsang Kwong Yiu for the tip: Microsoft has released the U.S. English version of the Office 97 Service Release 1 SR-1). The Office 97 SR-1 makes it easier to manage issues with sharing files between different versions of Office, which some large organizations have experienced with Office 97. In particular, Office 97 SR-1 includes the Word 6.0/95 Binary Converter for Word 97. This converter enables Word 97 users to save files in the Word 6.0/95 native file format. In addition, SR-1 also includes enhanced support for POP3 and SMTP Internet e-mail in Outlook 97, the new Microsoft Access Snapshot, support for Intel's MMX technology, various new viewers, converters and other minor enhancements and updates.

International versions of Office 97 Service Release 1 will be available beginning this fall. The U.S. English SR-1 download for Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51 with Service Pack 5 or later, or Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 2 or later, is available from the Microsoft Web site
