Eudora vulnerable to password hackers

Qualcomm, makers of the popular Eudora email package, is warning its usersto not save their passwords because of the proliferation of the password hacking programs now available that are designed to decrypt them. Both theWindows and Macintosh versions of Eudora are vulnerable to this type ofattack, the company announced this week.

"[A Eudora password hacking program] is reading the INI file and finding the password entry. It runs a symmetric algorithm...and decrypts the password," said John Noerenburg, Eudora's director of technology. "Savingthe password in Eudora is really a very foolish thing to do. The only reason we allow it at all is that some users have demanded it so strenuously."
