Trend Micro Acquires InterMute; Novell Acquires Immunix

Recent acquisitions bring more spyware technology to Trend Micro and Linux application security to Novell.

Security solution maker Trend Micro that it has acquired Intermute for approximately $15 million. Trend Micro recently released anti-spyware solutions and intends to integrate InterMute's SpySubtract anti-spyware solution into its suite of offerings.

Novell announced that it acquired Linux application security vendor Immunix, maker of AppArmor. Novell intends to rename the product Novell AppArmor powered by Immunix. The company said that the protection afforded by AppArmor stops attacks from impacting a system so that patching can become part of scheduled maintenance instead of it being an emergency procedure.
