After installing SP2 (Service Pack 2) on Windows XP, you receive:

Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file drive_letter:file_pathfile_name. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

If your computer uses a 3ware RAID controller that you configured for high performance by modifying the CacheControl Value Name, a REG_DWORD data type, at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl3ware Storage Controller to ignore all flush commands and disable use of the FUA bit (0x00000031), you will experience this behavior.

To restore normal behavior:

1. Open a CMD.exe window.

2. Type the following command and press Enter:

REG ADD "HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl3ware Storage Controller" /V CacheControl /T REG_DWORD /D 0 /F

3. When you receive the The operation completed successfully message, shutdown and restart Windows XP.
