If you plug a high power USB device, like a hard disk, into the USB port, the device may not be available. You may not receive a USB Hub Power Exceeded message.
If your device consumes more than 500 MA of power, an Intel I/O Controller Hub (Intel ICH5 or ICH6) may not verify over current situations.
To workaround this behavior, power the USB device with an external power source.
