Product Review: EasyAcc USB Charging Docking Station and Hub

I've said it before, but when a company can pull together various functions into a single device, I'm more apt to enjoy using it. These days, it's difficult to innovate except through improvements. I've had the chance, recently, to test and review EasyAcc's USB hub and docking station and the number of features wrapped into this handsome device has caused me to replace the Inateck USB 3.0 7-Port Powered Hub I reviewed in March and decided to use as a nightstand charging station.

As shown in the photo, the product box comes packed with the hub, a power adapter, a USB 2.0 Data Cable, a USB 2.0 OTG Cable, a USB charging cable, and a brief, multi-fold manual.

Here's what EasyAcc has packed into the hub.

The unit is sleek and uniquely designed in that it sports the USB ports on the back, the card reader slots on the side, but also has a slot in the front that serves as a stand for a tablet or smartphone. And, if you look closer inside the slot, there's a recessed hole, allowing you to feed a USB charging cable underneath the unit for those tablets and smartphones with charging ports on the bottom.

The stand option allows you to hoist your tablet into place to watch video while it's charging, and it also just makes it look more organized and gives you additional space over just laying the tablet flat.

I've tested the EasyAcc with my normal computing setup and it works great, however, still nothing compares to the Plugable USB 3.0 10-Port Hub I use with my Surface Pro 3 and dock. And, for good reason. First off, the EasyAcc only provides USB 2.0 functionality, and secondly, the Plugable is a man's hub, serving a full 10 USB 3.0 ports.

So, instead of replacing the Plugable for daily PC use, the EasyAcc has now taken the spot that was home to the Inateck 7-port hub on my nightstand for a couple months. I still use the Inateck USB 3.0 7-Port Powered Hub. In fact, I now carry it with me when I travel, giving me the ability to charge all my travel devices in the hotel room without having to locate a separate electrical outlet for each device. But, for home nightstand use, I'm using the EasyAcc version. It just looks better. And, maybe that's not the best reason to switch, but the wife appreciates the style over function.

Bottom Line

The EasyAcc hub is a great looking device. If you don't have a USB hub already, this unit can provide additional USB connections along with memory card reader functionality and a pretty decent price. If you're looking to replace a hub and style is not a huge concern, I'd first check into finding one that has USB 3.0 support (as long as your PC supports it) like the Inateck. And, of course, if you are a port-hungry, power vamp like me, the Plugable 10-port USB 3.0 hub is probably your best bet.
