Microsoft Makes Mobile App Management Official for Android and iOS

Announced and shown at Microsoft Ignite just this past May, Microsoft today is announcing the official launch of Mobile Application Management (MAM) for iOS and Android devices. The built-in Outlook capability is provided through either MDM for Office 365 or Microsoft Intune.

MDM is part of Office 365 and provides core functionality for app-level management. Those companies that want more can opt to use Microsoft Intune to provide this function but also take advantage of the wealth of additional features that Microsoft's cloud-based management suite provides.

How it works in Intune

Microsoft Intune administrators create MAM polices and apply them to managed devices. When the user logs into their device using a work account, the selected settings are applied. The policies are provided to protect corporate data, including mechanisms to:

  • Prevent data relocation

  • Prohibit screenshot captures

  • Require valid credentials for application Access

  • Encrypt all corporate app data

  • Selectively wipe company data
