WinHEC 2008: Microsoft announces support for 256 processors in Windows Server 2008

Which is odd, since I wrote about this two weeks ago. Anyway. :) Here’s the word from Microsoft:

The Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC) continued in Los Angeles today with a keynote from Bill Laing, corporate vice president, Windows Server and Solutions Division. Laing announced in the keynote that Windows Server R2 along with SQL Server “Kilimanjaro,” will increase the number of logical processors supported from 64 up to 256 with leading hardware vendors HP, IBM and Intel. Support for greater than 64 processor computing provides customers with the choice to consolidate more data sources while maintaining similar or improved performance and scalability.  Click here for a link to the PressPass Q&A with Laing.
