When you run dbcc checkdb or dbcc checkalloc against a SQL Server 2005 database on a Windows Server 2003 NTFS file system partition and then run chkdsk on that same partition, you receive:
Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.
This is typically a reporting error, and if it is, may be safely ignored. To verify that it is a reporting error:
1. Open a CMD.EXE window.
2. Type chkdsk /v <Drive_Letter:> and press Enter, where <Drive_Letter:> is the drive where chkdsk reported the error.
3. Verify that your output is similar to:
The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is SPARSE. WARNING! F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-only mode. CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... File verification completed. CHKDSK is verifying indexes (stage 2 of 3)... Correcting sparse file record segment 29. Index verification completed. Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.4. If you receive the Correcting sparse file record segment 29. line, this is a reporting error and you can safely ignore this error.
