Q. How can I configure Windows Server 2003 to display a message box when it detects an application error?

By default, Windows Server 2003 (and Windows XP) does not display a message box when it detects an application error.

To configure it manually:

1. Start / Run / drwtsn32 / OK.

2. Check the Visual Notification box.

3. Press OK.

NOTE: When the message box is displayed, no new windows or messages can be display, but background processes are not affected.

NOTE: If you do not press a button on the message box with 5 minutes, the message is removed.

To configure Visual Notification via the registry:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DrWatson /V VisualNotification /T REG_DWORD /F /D 1 and press Enter.
