Q. How can I add the Administrative Tools icon to the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 desktop?

Dragging the Administrative Tools folder from \Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools can cause unwanted consequences.

To create an Administrative Tools shortcut on your desktop:

1. Open a CMD.EXE windows.

2. Type the following command and press Enter:

REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\\{D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524153\} /F

3. If the icon doesn't appear in a few seconds, left click a blank area of your desktop and press F5.
