Nokia Documents Lumia 800 Design

Nokia this week released an interesting 8 minute video that describes the design considerations that went into its Windows Phone-based Lumia 800. Ignoring for a moment that the Lumia 800 is just a repackaged Nokia N9 with fewer hardware components, the video is interesting for a number of reasons and gives credence to Nokia's desire to establish itself as the apex of mobile device design.

For example, the Lumia 800 is unique among Windows Phones in that its screen is actually bigger than the stipulated 800 x 480 design that is common to such devices. This was done so that the three hardware buttons--Back, Windows, and Search--could be implemented as part of the screen, and Nokia worked with Microsoft to enable that seamlessly.

The video is available now on You Tube.
