JSI Tip 7829. When you use the Automated System Recovery wizard in Windows Server 2003, you cannot store the .bkf file on a network drive?

When you attempt to specify a network drive for the .bkf file in the ASR (Automated System Recovery) wizard, you receive:

The specified path is not the local path to this computer. It will not be accessible upon restore. Do you want to continue?

This behavior occurs because the an Automated System Restore can only access a .bkf file on a supported tape drive, or on a local disk drive.

NOTE: During an Automated System Restore, the network stack does NOT load.
