JSI Tip 7634. When you install Windows Server 2003 on a remotely administered system, using a Winnt.sif file, you are prompted for a Product Key?

When you install Windows Server 2003 from the CD-ROM, on a remotely administered system, where the Winnt.sif file is on a floppy disk, you are prompted for a Product Key, even though a valid Product Key is included in the Winnt.sif file.

This type of install defaults to an installation mode of Express Setup, which requires an Unattend.txt file.

To workaround this behavior, make a copy of the Winnt.sif file, on the floppy disk, and name it Unattend.txt.

NOTE: See Headless Server and EMS Design.

NOTE: See How to perform an unattended Emergency Management Services installation of Windows Server 2003.
