JSI Tip 7238. Windows Server 2003 does NOT start after installing or reinstalling a Windows XP dual boot?

If you install or reinstall Windows XP in a dual boot configuration with Windows Server 2003, Setup replaces the Ntldr and Ntdetect.com files, preventing Windows Server 2003 from booting.

To resolve this problem:

1. Start the Recovery Console. If it is NOT a menu item, start the computer from the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM and press R on the setup screen.

2. After logging onto the proper Windows Server 2003 instance, type fixboot and press Enter.

3. Type Exit and press Enter.

4. Start Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP normally.
