JSI Tip 6850. Do not enable the DNS Proxy option in Windows Server 2003 demand-dialing NAT on a domain controller?

If the DNS Proxy option is enabled on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller, a demand-dial interface used with network address translation (NAT) may not hang up, or may sporadically dial because of the traffic generated by the DNS server.

To disable the DNS Proxy option:

1. Open the Routing and Remote Access service Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in.

2. Expand IP Routing.

3. Right-click NAT.... and press Properties.

4. Select the Name Resolution tab.

5. Clear the Clients using Domain Name System (DNS) box.

6. Press Apply and OK.
