Can I extend a disk in Windows Server 2003?

Windows 2003 lets you extend a partition via the Disk Management node of the Storage branch in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Computer Management snap-in and via the diskpart.exe tool. You can't use the Disk Management GUI tool to extend a disk that is the boot or system partition nor a disk containing a pagefile. To extend a volume via the GUI, perform these steps:

  1. Right-click the existing volume and select Extend Volume from the context menu, which starts the Extend Volume Wizard.
  2. Click Next to the Welcome page.
  3. Any available unpartitioned space will be selected. However, you can change the amount of space to add by modifying the "Select the amount of space in MB" value, as the figure shows. Click Next.
  4. Click Finish to the summary message.
