Windows 98 testers get first OSR beta

Thanks to Mary Jo Foley for the tip: According to reports on ZDNet, Microsoft has released the first beta of its Windows 98 OEM Service Release (OSR), a newer version of Windows 98 that will eventually be sold with new computers. Windows 98 OSR includes Internet Explorer 5.0, DirectX 6.1, and the updates from Windows 98 Service Pack 1 (SP1, a set of fixes that Windows 98 users will be able to download from Windows Update). These include a new version of Windows Media Player, Euro support, an updated version of WebTV for Windows, device bay support, and some networking upgrades. ZDNet reports that the OSR release is a full 114 MB and is "meant to incorporate all bug fixes made to Windows 98 gold code since June.
