Windows 98 Public beta released

Microsoft has begun seriously promoting Windows 98 for the first time, and is now offering a public beta version of Windows 98, code-named "Memphis," that users can order for $30 from the Microsoft Web site. The Windows 98 Consumer Beta Preview Program will be made available to the first 100,000 people that respond to the offer. The beta includes a CD-ROM with Windows 98 beta software (the Beta 3 release), the Getting Started Guide and Product Release notes, and a program brochure.
