It may be old hat to some of you, but if you've wondered how to add a cascading list of Control Panel applets to your Windows 95 Start menu, avoiding the Start->Settings->Control Panel open window operation, this is it. This tip also works for other resources: you can add a cascading Printers item, a cascading Dial-up Networking item, or an Internet Explorer 3.x URL history to the top of the Start menu using these steps: 1. Right-click the Start menu and choose Open. 2. Right-click an empty area of the window that appears and choose New and then Folder. 3. Type in the resource identifier for the resource you want to add to the Start menu (they are found below). Make sure you type it exactly as shown, with a space, a period, two curly braces, and four hyphens in exactly the right places. If you want to avoid typing those huge strings, Copy each string into the clipboard and Paste it into the folder name to rename it. I tested each string this way to make sure they were correct. 4. Press Enter when you're done. The folder name should change to reflect the resource (so, for example, if you type in the Control Panel resource ID, it should just read "Control Panel"). Test it by clicking the Start menu and using the new item. If your folder name did not change (that is, it still displays the long string of numbers and letters) then you typed it wrong, so check it carefully and try again.
