Symantec to acquire Quarterdeck

Symantec Corporation announced on Thursday that it would be purchasing Quarterdeck Corporation for approximately $65 million, including the remainder of Quarterdeck's debt. Quarterdeck, a maker of software utilities for Windows, has fallen on hard times lately. Symantec is most famous for its collection of Windows utilities that are marketed under the "Norton" name.

"Quarterdeck is an industry pioneer that has developed many market-leading technologies," said Symantec President and CEO Gordon Eubanks. "We expect to further increase our technical leadership in desktop and enterprise utilities by integrating Quarterdeck's technology with ours, and continuing to deliver superior products to customers under the Norton brand.
