Q: How do I install Client Hyper-V on my Windows 8 desktop?

A: If your client machine has a 64-bit processor that supports hardware virtualization and secondary level address translation (SLAT), then Client Hyper-V can be installed.

The installation is a simple process, as Hyper-V is just a feature of Windows 8 client.

  1. Open the Control Panel (Open Explorer, select your computer, then on the computer ribbon select Control Panel) (Figure 1).

  2. Select the Programs and Features control panel applet.
  3. Select the Turn Windows features on or off action (Figure 2).

  4. Select Hyper-V, which allows granular decisions about whether only the Hyper-V platform and/or the Hyper-V management tools should be installed. Click OK. (Figure 3)

  5. The machine will need to reboot, then Hyper-V will be available on the client.
