PC BIOS makers to merge

Thanks to Keith Furman for the tip: Two of the largest makers of BIOS software for personal computers (the software that manages basic hardware communication), Phoenix Technologies and Award, announced today that they have agreed to merge. The newly combined company, which will do business under the Phoenix name, will have a market capitalization of approximately $300 million and employ 800 people, according to the companies.

The merger is expected to close by June 30
