Netscape to release new Communicator and Server

Netscape will release a new version of its Communicator suite next week that is "95% compatible with Sun's Java Developer Kit (JDK) 1.1." Perhaps Sun will sue them as well. Also expected next week is Netscape's new Directory Server that supports LDAP and international character support.

"Communicator Beta 2" will support JavaBeans, the Abstract Windowing Toolkit (AWT), and the Java Network Framework from JDK 1.1. Netscape promises full JDK 1.1 support by the time the final version ships in a few months.

Directory Server will also ship by the end of the year and will be bundled with the next version of SuiteSpot, code-named "Apollo."
