Netscape posts standalone Navigator 4.02 for Windows 95 and NT

Well, it's official: Netscape is not only releasing a standalone Navigator 4.02 browser, they've already uploaded it to their Web site! The 7.7MB download contains the Navigator browser and Netcaster push components from Communicator only.

"Today, Netscape is expanding its client product line by combining the world's most popular browser with state-of-the-art push technology, and bringing it to millions of new users everywhere," said Mike Homer, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Netscape. "The Netscape Navigator client continues to deliver to users low cost of ownership and an easy-to-use interface, providing a simple and familiar way to access all of the exciting and useful information on the Internet and Intranets."

You can download Navigator 4.02 now from the Netscape Web site.

The company will sell the browser for $39 and allow buyers to eventually upgrade to the full Communicator suite if desired. Netscape announced that Hewlett-Packard, Lotus, IBM, Digital, Sun, Silicon Graphics and Novell will all license Navigator 4.0. I guess it was a good idea after all
