Netscape may unbundle Navigator for IBM

Corel asked for it and was rebuked, but hardware giant IBM may get its way: Netscape may agree to unbundle their Navigator Web browser from Communicator for Big Blue. Netscape previously had refused to ever unbundle the browser from the Communicator suite but pressure from competitor Internet Explorer--which is offered for free--is forcing Netscape to rethink the bundling terms. If they do unbundle Navigator, IBM's Lotus division would be able to offer it as a front-end to their Notes server, which currently uses Internet Explorer.

Netscape vice president Marc Andreessen wouldn't confirm that the browser would be unbundled, but he did mention that the company "would address that issue in the next quarter
