Netscape Communicator 4.0 hits delays

Back in December, Netscape released the first preview of Communicator 4.0 for Windows 95 and NT, and it seemed that the product would gel quickly. Today, Netscape officials admitted that that isn't the case: the release of Communicator 4.0 has slipped into the second quarter and the next preview release has slipped to February. Communicator is expected to have three preview releases before the final version ships. Netscape Navigator 3.0, for example, had six preview releases. Netscape will not sell the Navigator component of Communicator separately: if you want the browser, you'll have to get the whole package.

In other news, Constellation, Netscape's attempt at a Windows desktop replacement, will be in beta by the second quarter with a release expected around mid-year. This is the first word of a release cycle for the Constellation project
