Microsoft ships Wolfpack beta 2

Microsoft delivered the second beta of Wolfpack, their Windows NT clustering technology, this week. Features include:

  • Print queue fail-over.
  • Easier setup procedures for applications that use the Registry for setup information, such as SQL Server.
  • Support for Windows NT Server's fault tolerance RAID software.
This beta was sent to approximately 750 testers and will be given to MSDN subscribers in the next shipment. Microsoft plans to ship Wolpack "Phase 1" (a version that scales to two servers) this year. "Phase 2"--featuring 16-server scaling--is due in 1998.

"We're still on track for summer" for Phase 1, said Mark Wood, yet another Product Manager at Microsoft
