Microsoft releases PPTP beta for Windows 95

Thanks to WinInfo subscriber Rick Parker for this tip: Microsoft has just released the first beta of Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) for Windows 95. What is PPTP you ask? Well, PPTP is relatively new protocol that allows you to use the Internet to access private remote networks over the Internet. PPTP integrates with Dial-Up Networking (DUN) and Remote Access Service (RAS) so that you can easily and seamlessly (well, except for connection speed, I suppose) connect to NT Server-based networks over the Internet using encryption for security. PPTP is available in Windows NT 4.0 Workstation and Server and will be available in the next version of Windows 95, code-named "Memphis."
