Microsoft releases BackOffice Small Business Server

Microsoft Corporation today announced the availability of BackOffice Small Business Server, its new server suite for businesses with 25 or fewer employees. BackOffice Small Business Server includes Windows NT Server 4.0, Exchange Server 5.0, SQL Server 6.5, and other tools, as well as a set of server management tools with Wizards that makes installing and configuring the software easy.

"We listened to feedback from thousands of small businesses and the organizations that service them before creating Small Business Server," said Jim Allchin, senior VP of Microsoft's personal and business systems group. "They wanted a comprehensive suite that provides everything small businesses need in an IT solution, without requiring an IT staff to manage it. Making the suite easy to install, manage and use was a core design goal, and reflects Microsoft's commitment to simplifying computing overall."

BackOffice Small Business Server retails for $1499 for a five-user license, and $2459 for 25 users. "Add packs" of five users are available for about $300 each, though the servers are limited to 25 users total.
